The first iteration of the Romanian School, Post Industrial Futures, took place in 2026 in the city of Timișoara, Western Romania. I led Strand A: Community Line, which looked at ways people from different backgrounds and sectors can navigate politics and complexity to collaborate on possible community-led futures for Romania’s many abandoned industrial sites. Our focus was the Colterm energy site, a centralised heating plant for the city with enormous, disused oil vats. As a group we travelled to Reșița, an industrial town dominated by an enormous and now mostly disused iron and steel plant to see how community-led initiatives are reclaiming the vacant space. At the end of the week-long programme, participants presented their strategies to work collaboratively to develop plans for the Colterm site. The projects aim to involve more people in the production of policy and communicate intangible or abstract ideas that shape our places.Darkenss in Urban Spaces ︎ Kim Coleman and Harun Morrison, 2023-25: a research commission exploring how intagible planning policies around light and dark spaces are experienced or understood by human and non-human inhabitants of Ham in Richmond. The project was commissioned with Richmond Arts Service with the aim of using artist-led research to give policy makers new insights. In collaboration with Tenaya Steed and our local partners Thảo Vu and Hûyen Nguyen.Chao Chi! was the film Tenaya &amp; I made for the project which gives a small glimpse into the lives of some of the women we met. They showed us how they make the fabric that is their livelihood and we talked about how they keep their villages running, sex, what their husbands do and the way the landscape is changing with new hotels and development in the area. We bought samples of hemp being processed at various stages, finsihed fabric and mass produced traditional costumes from a market. In Hanoi we bought new plastic stools and swaped them for old ones with restaurant owners. The items were displayed in an exhibition, On the Line, held at The Aram Gallery during London craft week 2017, curated by Martina Margetts. Exhibition Design by Mentsen. We embedded the sounds of grassroots football in ours: the sound of matches on village greens, on pitch rituals, to the distinctive on-pitch communication - get rid!, stick it in the mixer &amp; studs brushing the grass.
